Plum Squalane & Vitamin E SPF 50 PA+++ Sunscreen Review

I purchased the Plum Squalane and Vitamin E sunscreen as it is formulated with new generation UV filters that are known to be one of the safest sun filters. Moreover, they remain stable when exposed to sunlight and are less likely to cause skin irritation. My experience with this sunscreen has been fairly good and let’s check the review.

Price, Shelf life and Availability

499 INR for 50 gms with a shelf life of 2 years from date of manufacturing. Available on Plum website, Nykaa and Amazon.

Packaging, Texture and Fragrance

The sunscreen is available in a squeeze tube with a flip top cap. The texture of the sunscreen is smooth and consistency is little thick cream like but is non greasy and non buttery. The product has a fragrance like thick curd which is used to make shrikhand. It’s the result of the formulation itself since product doesn’t have any added fragrance.

My experience with Plum Squalane and Vitamin E Sunscreen

This is a chemical sunscreen without any physical filters and hence leaves a mild white cast that settles in a few minutes. The sunscreen ingredients are as follows :
Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Octocrylene, Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Ethylhexyl Triazone

I would prefer using the new generation UV filters since many brands are launching sunscreens with the UV filters that may or may not be safe. This is ofcourse my personal opinion.

I usually stick to two finger rule for all sunscreens as my skin is oily and clog prone. The sunscreen requires a little bit of blending and the final finish is neither matte nor hydrating. After sometime, you feel as if you haven’t applied anything on your skin. It not only is easily absorbed but also leaves zero residual feeling and no white cast. I haven’t experienced any watery eye or tingling sensation near the eye area as such. Additionally it worth mentioning, I haven’t experienced any acne or clogged pores with this sunscreen.

If you have dry to normal skin you may find the need to apply a hydrating serum or gel beneath the sunscreen. I feel it is not as hydrating as the Plum Niacinamide Sunscreen. So usually I apply an oil free moisturizer before using the sunscreen for a hydrating effect. I have also tried a vitamin C serum before using this sunscreen and it works just fine both ways. After using the three-finger technique, it may feel heavy but doesn’t leave any greasy or oily residue on my oily, acne prone skin.

The sunscreen isn’t much waterproof because if I wash my face in between after applying the sunscreen it gets easily washed off. But it’s a sweat proof sunscreen and doesn’t make you sweat after applying it as a standalone product. It may sweat or feel greasy in hot weather if you use a hydrating serum beneath it. Washing off the sunscreen is super duper easy as you don’t require double cleansing routine for this sunscreen. Although if you want you can double cleanse your face every day.

Plum Squalane and Vitamin E Sunscreen Review

This is an oil-free, chemical sunscreen with new generation UV filters and offers broad-spectrum protection of SPF 50+ PA+++. It doesn’t give a hydrating bit will give a kind of mattifying effect. The texture is thick but blends easily and feels feather light on the skin. Moreover, it doesn’t clog pores or cause any acne for my oily and acne-prone skin. It doesn’t irritate the eyes and can be easily removed with or without any oil-based cleanser. I would say a sunscreen with new generation UV filters at this price point would be worth trying out.
