As I am trying out different sunscreens over the period of time, I realize how skincare brands are trying hard to improve the texture while providing good protection against the sun’s rays. I won Derma Co Hyaluronic Sunscreen Aqua Gel in a giveaway on Instagram. After using it sufficiently for a few weeks here we have Derma Co Hyaluronic Sunscreen Aqua Gel Review

Packaging, Texture and Fragrance
Derma Co Hyaluronic Acid Sunscreen is housed in a sleek pump up packaging with a small dispenser and a cap. Nonetheless, the packaging is easy to use and super travel-friendly. Derma Co Sunscreen gel has a moisturizer kind of texture with a gel cream feel. The colour is ultra white and fragrance is a little bit weird. The fragrance is noticeable once you dispense it fades away in a couple of minutes after application.
My experience with The Derma Co Hyaluronic Sunscreen Aqua Gel
It is a hybrid sunscreen containing physical as well as chemical filters for sun protection. Sunscreen agents are as follows
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Zinc Oxide, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Benzophenone-3, Titanium Dioxide.
I feel the sunscreen is more of a moisturizer due to the hyaluronic acid in it. It feels quite hydrating and gives a cooling effect to my oily, acne prone skin. People who follow the three finger rule for sunscreen and have oily skin might feel that it is heavy. Personally speaking I feel this sunscreen is more suitable for dry, normal skin types.
The sunscreen gives a moisturizer-like effect to the skin after applying. I never felt the need to use any moisturizer prior to using this sunscreen, so I haven’t tested the sunscreen with a moisturizer. It works better without moisturizer WHILE APPLYING BUT SWEATS. If we apply the sunscreen in too much quantity it crumbles a bit as after one point it isn’t absorbed into the skin. Always make it a point to blend any sunscreens by blending in one direction steadily and not rub in both directions.
Coming to the application part, it is pretty easy to blend into the skin completely due to the gel cream kind of texture. I personally find the sunscreen moisturizing without any stickiness or oiliness. I usually don’t reapply my sunscreen so won’t be able to comment regarding reapplying. The sunscreen doesn’t irritate the eye area at all. I have used it on upper eyelids too, no irritation whatsoever!
The sunscreen can be easily removed using an oil based cleanser or a good foaming cleanser. I sometimes use a foaming cleanser whenever I am lazy and find that it feels good to use a foaming cleanser instead of double cleansing. Whenever I remove the Derma Co Sunscreen using an oil cleanser, I feel the skin gets dehydrated.
On another note, I haven’t seen any acne or clogging of pores while using sunscreen. The only thing with this sunscreen is that you might as well skip using a moisturizer beneath. I don’t experience any sweating when I am at home. However, when we use a mask it does sweat a bit. Following this the three finger rule for this sunscreen might clog the pores unless you really take good care of your skin and are using good exfoliating products in your skincare routine.
Also the sunscreen isn’t oil free, so if you are looking out for an oil free sunscreen this might not be the right choice. You may go in for Re’equil Ultra Matte Dry Touch Sunscreen Gel in that case.
Summing Up
Derma Co Sunscreen Gel is an all in one serum plus moisturizer kind of sunscreen. It contains 1% Hyaluronic Acid which intensely hydrates the skin while making the sunscreen application easy. The product doesn’t leave any white cast and readily absorbs into the skin. The formulation being non oil free, some may find it a little heavy especially the oily, acne prone skin types. The fact that this sunscreen falls under the 500 INR bracket, applies like a dream, has SPF 50 and offers PA++++ sun protection makes it a very popular one in the market. It can also be found on discounts often. If you are looking for an affordable sunscreen for regular use then give this one a try and see how it goes for your skin.
