Last updated on 20 March, 2024

I spotted Dot and Key Watermelon Sunscreen on Nykaa even before it was announced as an official launch. So, I immediately ordered it during Nykaa Pink love Sale along with the Dot and Key Vitamin C Sunscreen. I am happy with my purchase so let’s check out Dot and Key Watermelon Sunscreen Review.

Packaging, Texture and Fragrance

The product is available in a pink colour plastic tube with a twist up cap. The packaging is pretty sleek and easy to carry as well as use. One can easily keep the tube inverted to use the product till last drop. The product has a beautiful gel cream texture that blends fully into the skin without any white cast. The consistency is neither too runny like a gel nor thick like a cream. The product does not contain any fragrance as such and doesn’t smell much.

My experience with Dot and Key Watermelon Sunscreen

It is a hybrid sunscreen with chemical as well as physical sunscreen agents as mentioned below

  • Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane
  • Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate
  • Benzophenone-3 (Oxybenzone)
  • Titanium Dioxide

The sunscreen gives no white cast and this makes it suitable for people who are worried about a white cast. This product is specially formulated to be a lightweight hydration without any greasiness for a dewy, silky finish. The product is gel cream in consistency and is very convenient to blend into the skin. Blending this sunscreen is super easy. Dot and Key sunscreen feels hydrating to the skin without any heavy feel. I usually use a vitamin C serum before using this sunscreen. However, I did use gel moisturizer on a few occasions and it works just fine both ways.

Even after using the three-finger technique, it neither feels heavy nor does it leave any greasy or oily residue on my oily acne-prone skin. It truly is a lightweight, hydrating sunscreen that is very affordable too. The sunscreen doesn’t irritate the eye area at all. I have used it on my upper eyelids too and there is no irritation whatsoever! It doesn’t even make my eyes water. I had experienced watery eyes with Requil Sunscreen last time.

Finally speaking about the summers ahead, this sunscreen isn’t sweat proof or waterproof. So you find the need to reapply the sunscreen whenever you sweat or come in contact with water. I experience sweating sometimes immediately after applying if I am at home. However, when I use a mask and head outside it does sweat and needs reapplication. I personally feel this sunscreen is apt for monsoons and winters since it’s not sweat proof and water proof.

The reapplication part of the sunscreen is pretty convenient due to the texture. One can wash off the previous sunscreen and use it again or just reapply on previously applied sunscreen. Still, it doesn’t feel heavy after reapplication. The sunscreen is easily to remove using an oil based cleanser or a good foaming cleanser. I prefer double cleansing while using any sunscreen with silicone.

Pros

  • Gives an instant cooling effect with smooth, luminous & oil-free skin
  • Oil free, mattifying and lightweight formulation that provides good hydration
  • Hybrid sunscreen formulation with chemical sunscreen and physical sunscreen agents
  • Blends into the skin very effortlessly without any white cast, oily or greasy feeling
  • Doesn’t irritate the eye area or doesn’t make the eyes water when applied near the eyes
  • Works well without moisturizer or serum for oily skin
  • Doesn’t clog pores or give any acne
  • Contains UVA and UVB filters to provide broad-spectrum protection
  • Suitable for normal and dry skin with moisturizer beneath
  • Easy to remove with or without double cleansing

Cons

  • Some may experience sweating especially in the hot afternoons in the summers
  • Neither waterproof nor sweat proof post one hour application

Dot and Key Watermelon Sunscreen Review

It is a hydrating, oil-free, hybrid sunscreen that blends into the skin nicely and provides broad-spectrum protection of SPF 50+ PA+++. It gives a hydrating effect with a dewy finish owing to its lightweight, hydrating formulation. Moreover, it doesn’t clog pores or cause any acne for my oily and acne-prone skin. The fact that it doesn’t irritate the eyes and can be easily removed with any oil-based cleanser makes it a good one to be used daily. It is apt to use this one on a regular basis especially in monsoons and winters since it’s not much sweat proof or waterproof. Do give it a try if you are looking for a budget friendly sunscreen.
