Deconstruct Gel Sunscreen Review

Last updated on 25 October, 2023

Gel sunscreens are quite popular these days and I was pretty intrigued to try out one. When Deconstruct sent me a PR box I got a chance to use the Deconstruct Gel Sunscreen SPF 55+++. I have always preferred oil free sunscreens for my oily acne prone skin and to top it all now an oil free, gel based formulation is easy to use according to the three finger technique or even best for reapplication.

Deconstruct Gel Sunscreen Review

Packaging, Texture and Fragrance

The product is available in a black colour plastic tube with flip top cap. The packaging is easy to carry as well as use. The product has a nice silicone kind of texture that feels like a gel when blending into the skin. The sunscreen has silicone like texture but it has a gel consistency. The product does not contain any fragrance as such and doesn’t smell much.

My experience with Deconstruct Gel Sunscreen

It is a chemical sunscreen with chemical sunscreen agents as mentioned below

  • Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane
  • Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate
  • Benzophenone-3 (Oxybenzone)

The sunscreen gives no white cast since it has no physical sunscreen agents. This makes it apt for people who are worried about a white cast. This product is specially formulated to be a lightweight hydrating without any greasiness. The product is silicone kind (but does not contain silicone) in consistency and is very convenient to blend into the skin. Blending this sunscreen is super easy. Deconstruct sunscreen feels as if you have applied some gel to the skin without any heavy feel. I usually use a vitamin C serum before using this sunscreen. However, I skip using any gel moisturizer since the sunscreen is pretty hydrating.

Even after using the three-finger technique, it neither feels heavy nor does it leave any greasy or oily residue on my oily acne-prone skin. It truly is a lightweight, gel based sunscreen that is very affordable too. The sunscreen doesn’t irritate the eye area at all. I have used it on my upper eyelids too and didn’t experience any irritation! It doesn’t even make my eyes water. I had experienced watery eyes with Requil Sunscreen.

Deconstruct Gel Sunscreen Review

Finally speaking about the summers ahead, this sunscreen is waterproof upto some extent but reapplication is recommended by the brand of you are into water based activities. So you will have to reapply this sunscreen whenever you sweat or come in contact with water. I experience sweating sometimes immediately after applying if I am at home. However, when I use a mask and head outside it does sweat and needs reapplication. I personally feel this sunscreen is apt for monsoons and winters since it’s gel based.

The reapplication part of the sunscreen is pretty convenient due to the texture. One can wash simply splash water on previously applied sunscreen and reapply it or just reapply on previously applied sunscreen without washing off. Either way it doesn’t feel heavy after reapplication. The sunscreen can be easily removed using an oil based cleanser or a good foaming cleanser. I prefer double cleansing daily for my oily skin so currently am using the Deconstruct cleansing balm followed by the Deconstruct Salicylic Acid face wash.

Pros

  • Sunscreen with chemical sunscreen agents as well as hydrating agents such as phospholipids & glycerin
  • Oil free and light weight formulation
  • Doesn’t give any white cast, oily or greasy feeling
  • Works well with or without moisturizer and/or serum
  • Doesn’t clog pores or give any acne
  • Silicone free, fragrance free, paraben free
  • Contains UVA and UVB filters to provide broad-spectrum protection
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • Doesn’t crumble or pill if rubbed in two opposite directions on the skin
  • Removing the sunscreen doesn’t need double cleansing routine

Cons

  • The face sweats a little in hot afternoon

Deconstruct Gel Sunscreen Review

Deconstruct Gel Sunscreen is an oil-free sunscreen that has feather light texture and provides broad-spectrum protection SPF 55+ and PA+++. It absorbs into the skin very well and feels as if you haven’t applied anything. It doesn’t clog pores or cause any acne for my oily and acne prone skin. The fact that it doesn’t irritate the eyes and can be removed well with a foaming cleanser makes it a good one to be used on a daily basis. The best part about this sunscreen is the reapplication part. The reapplication doesn’t feel heavy on my oily skin. I prefer using this for indoors or during monsoons or winters since it’s not much waterproof or sweat proof.
